Dislike of the Day: Known gang member Jason Valdez holed up in his Ogden, Utah, motel room with a hostage and engaged police in a 17-hour standoff, all while providing his Facebook friends with up-to-the-minute status updates on the unfolding situation.

One status update included a photo of the hostage, with an odd caption suggesting the individual may be there voluntarily.

According to ABC 4 News, local police were serving Valdez with a felony drug warrant when he fled into his Western Colony Inn suite, launching the standoff. After 17 hours, a SWAT team entered the room, where Valdez shot at them, before firing the semi-automatic handgun at his own chest.

Valdez — who told family members he would not go back to prison — is currently in the hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.
